A Pie Called Danger

I recently went on a trip to DC and had a blast. Everything was amazing: the food, the sights, and the fact that I got to spend some time with some of my favorite people. My friends are fabulous and, even better, love eating as much as I do. They created a whole agenda around well-known chefs, cooks, restaurants, and tasty bites and we spent the entire weekend snacking, tasting, and indulging.

We stopped at a place called Dangerously Delicious Pies. To be honest, I'm not too keen on fruit pies so I didn't think I would be all that excited but then I found out that DDP has a whole selection of savory pies. And I'm not just talking quiches (which they also make), I'm talking whole hearty meals inside of a buttery, flaky crust.

I even got to try some of their meaty varieties:

Sausage Tomato Fennel -- I can't be mad at anything with Italian sausage.
Steak Mushroom Onion Gruyere, lovingly referred to as S.M.O.G. -- It was like having hearty beef stew in pie form (pictured above).
Steak Chili -- Ahh, the one that got away. I love me some chili and really wanted to try this one on for size, but DDP was out of this popular dish for the day.

I loved everything about DDP, including the cute hipster server who is way too cool for school. I never thought about the possibility of meaty pies (outside of pot pies) and can't wait to try my hand at baking one, one of these days.
