Pier Pressure

Just days ago, my co-workers and I were faced with the ultimate dilemma: where should we go after work to grab a few drinks? Sounds like an easy question but when you throw nice weather and the need for outdoor seating into the mix, the answer doesn't come easily. We spent a good 10 minutes brainstorming, yelping, and googling our little hearts out.

El Rio, Savoy Tivoli, Medjool? All decent contenders but not quite what we were looking for. And then Cigar Bar elbowed its way into the conversation. Excellent choice. I could just see us sitting outside on the brick patio enjoying pitchers of whatever fruity libation was on the menu. So the plan was to catch the 10 bus on our way to victory. Happily ever after, right? Nope, not so fast, Cigar Bar, you have some competition on your heels...

I tell you, my co-workers are something else. They can think on their feet like no one else I know and they are full of great ideas, a winning combo. After presenting the idea of Cigar Bar to a fellow happy hour enthusiast, he suggested going to Pier 23.

Um, excuse me?! BEST. IDEA. EVER.

I could tell from the look on my co-workers' faces that we all knew Pier 23 was the ultimate champion. T.K.O. I don't know if any of you have been, but it's pretty amazing especially on a warm day. There are all the fundamentals for the perfect dive bar: food, drinks, great vibe, awesome music and then the outdoor seating takes it to the next level. It's not just any old patio, it's a pier, so you're sitting outside with a clear view of the bay. Seriously, it doesn't get any better.

So please don't be fooled by the shack-like exterior, this little place packs a punch. If you're lucky you'll go on a night where they bring in a band and turn the patio into a heated outdoor dance floor but beware of the post-9pm cover. Ahh Pier 23, I was a fool to forget you, but never again!
