Burger Envy

Nearly a month ago I passed up the opportunity to have a burger for lunch and have been regretting it ever since. Now, I've dealt with burger envy before and the best thing to do is self-medicate before it goes viral. So the time came and I told myself, “Jenelle, it’s Thursday night, go out and get that burger you’ve been craving.” And get it, I did.

My co-workers are major foodies and have enough restaurant suggestions to fill a novel. Someone suggested Polkers and immediately my eyes lit up because I have been wanting to try this place for months (maybe even years) but it always slipped my mind. Thank you, food junkies, for tapping into my forgotten desires!

Polkers Gourmet Burgers is located on, you guessed it, Polk Street in either Nob Hill or Russian Hill, depending on who you ask. My friend and I were already looking forward to a gourmet burger with all the fixins and then we saw the appetizer selection. If you know me, then you know that chicken wings are my heart, so that was at the top of the list. Oh my gosh, and they have jalapeno poppers? Done.

The appetizers are no joke, there were about 10 chicken wings and 12 poppers. My eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach, so I always over-order, especially when I’m sharing. I almost got a little crazy and started to upgrade to curly fries, at no extra charge thank you very much, but my friend set me straight and we got the classic version. The other wise move that my friend and I made was sharing the burger and fries. Our attempts to downsize didn't do too much because we still ended up ordering enough food for a small village, but you won’t catch me complaining because I’m a huge fan of leftovers.

I’m giving Polkers two stuffed thumbs up. The burger was good, but what really delighted me were all the extras. Between the cheerful server, generously poured mimosas, homemade fries, never-ending jalapeno poppers (and a partridge in a pear tree) I am beyond satisfied. Also, I heard brunch is pretty legit so I definitely plan on going back.
